1. Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are in an odd position right now. With Cam Newton injured, Kyle Allen came onto the scene and was seemingly looking like gangbusters and Carolina might’ve found an unexpected long-term answer at quarterback. In recent weeks, however, that’s looking less like the case. And now things are muddled beyond belief.

Discussion about whether or not the Panthers will move on from Newton remains a hot topic. From a financial standpoint, it would be beneficial for Carolina to either trade or release him as they’d save a little more than $19 million on the book by doing so. But can they really feel confident in doing that with Allen’s play? At the same time, can they feel confident in Newton with his injury woes?

That’s where Philip Rivers would come into play. This Panthers team is constructed to compete atop the NFC South right now. Christian McCaffrey is a stud, there are young receiving weapons that can make plays and the defense, although beat up recently, has some talented pieces throughout. Rivers, at his best, could come in and win with these Panthers.

Perhaps more importantly, Rivers has Carolina ties, playing his college football at NC State. For a man who is quite notably very much a family man, the quarterback could be willing to head to his old stomping grounds and make his way to the Panthers, even if he’s only a stopgap for them to win with before looking for a younger option.
