850. . DT. Gamecocks . Javon Kinlaw. 1. player

The Cowboys have been really bad when it comes to drafting defensive linemen in recent seasons. The selection of Michigan defensive end Taco Charlton was about as successful as a screen door on a submarine and so far, UCF defensive tackle Trysten Hill hasn’t looked the part yet either.

More from NFL Spin Zone

Hill, who was their first pick this offseason but came in the second round due to the Amari Cooper trade, has played in just six games and has only five tackles. It’s too early to call him a bust but the early returns have not been promising — especially when there were also rumblings of him falling asleep in meetings and showing up late which fit along with the character concerns he had in college.

Thankfully as was stated in the opening, this draft is being overseen by a new coaching staff. That means they can finally get something right up front without Rod Marinelli getting in the way and trying to ‘coach up’ some project — and another question, why is the defensive coordinator in the war room helping draft anyway?

Javon Kinlaw ends up being their pick and the South Carolina defensive tackle is simply a stud. He returned for his senior season after a strong junior season and really showed an improved game. He has a great first step and is truly a disruptive player in the middle of the line.

It will be great for Dallas to have a player capable o wrecking havoc from the three-technique right away rather than grabbing someone simply due to their size or a few traits and asking ‘ol Rod to ‘coach ’em up’!
