Dallas Cowboys build for new coach in 7-round 2020 NFL Mock Draft
By Randy Gurzi
There are more pending free agents at receiver for Dallas to consider as they enter the coming offseason. The big name is Amari Cooper but you would have to think they lock him up. Randall Cobb is a wildcard that has played well at times but will be 30 and may want more money. There’s also Tavon Austin but he hasn’t had the impact they expected when they said he would get the ball roughly two dozen times a game — no seriously, they said that.
Dallas adds some help here and they don’t have to look too far as they land Baylor’s Denzel Mims. He has excellent size at 6-foot-3 and 215-pounds and boasts a great catch radius. He’s also capable of getting deep as he has the long speed teams covet.
Coming from Baylor, there will be questions but he’s a great value here and could develop into a solid third receiver behind Cooper and Michael Gallup.
The Cowboys know they need depth in the middle of the defensive line and while taking Javon Kinlaw in the first round of this mock draft helps, it’s not enough. They need a lot of bodies in there and they could use someone who is capable of being an early-down run-stuffing nose tackle.
Antwaun Woods has filled that role for them but is a free agent in 2020 and just came off an arrest which doesn’t help his case. With his uncertain status, Dallas adds Oregon’s Jordon Scott with their final pick.
Scott is massive at 335 pounds and packs a mean punch. He won’t offer much on third downs but there’s always a role in the NFL for a guy capable of bullying interior linemen and shutting down the run.
