player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Jaylon Johnson. 2. 843. Cornerback. Utah

At least the Giants tried to mitigate their cornerback problems by selecting DeAndre Baker late in the first round in 2019. But Baker’s first year in the league left a lot to be desired. Baker seemingly was burned constantly by faster receivers in his rookie year and struggled simply to keep up with them. Outside of Baker, there are few other options, if any, that inspire confidence moving forward at cornerback.

Jaylon Johnson may be one of my favorite players in the 2020 NFL Draft class. It’s hard not to love the mentality and confidence the Utah cornerback brings to playing the position. Johnson is a physical corner who supremely trusts his ability. He will occasionally get beat on a play due to his aggressive nature but he never lets it phase him and will come out and shut down the guy on the next play.

It’s clear Johnson is a student of the game and the film with his ability to jump routes and use his instincts to make plays. But he’s not just an instinctual player as he proved at the NFL Combine that he has the athleticism to match it.

Johnson is going to be a nuisance to NFL quarterbacks due to his ability to read routes and break on them before they fully develop to make a play on the ball. That’s the type of playmaker the Giants sorely need in the secondary. Baker is still young and could develop after a tough rookie season but New York should surely invest more draft capital into the volatile position group.

Other Players Available: Justin Madibuke, Austin Jackson, Jonah Jackson
