5. Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have had a terrific offseason in my opinion. They’ve improved the offensive line by acquiring Trai Turner from Carolina and signing free agent right tackle Bryan Bulaga. They’ve recently extended their best offensive weapon, Austin Ekeler, and kept tight end Hunter Henry in town for another year. They’ve also added solid defensive pieces like Chris Harris and Linval Joseph.

While it seems like the Chargers have no more holes on the roster left to fill, I believe they should inquire about adding another wideout to their starting lineup. Los Angeles already fields an incredible wide receiver duo in Mike Williams and Keenan Allen, but they have been missing a speed threat for some time. Williams and Allen run a 4.59-second and 4.71-second 40, respectively, and typically have trouble getting behind the defense.

Cooks would immediately solve that problem, as his greatest skill is running deep routes and breaking into the second level. He would open up the offense, allowing Henry and Ekeler to work over the middle of the field and giving Allen and Williams one-on-one matchups. Cooks would give Los Angeles a wide receiver trio that could rival that of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Cooks would be more of a luxury than a necessity, but he could make the Chargers an offensive juggernaut. I understand many fans are not high on Tyrod Taylor, but he is a capable quarterback who has shown he can manage the game and make big plays. He consistently connected with Sammy Watkins and Marquise Goodwin on deep passes in Buffalo, so he could likely regain his downfield throwing prowess with Cooks in the fold.
