NFL Free Agency 2020: 5 Best landing spots for Devonta Freeman
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Now that Tom Brady is officially a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with the legendary quarterback officially signing with the organization this past week, Tampa Bay is laser-focused on trying to surround him with the best talent possible while trying to make the most out of the remaining time he has left in the NFL.
Part of trying to bring in top talent to continue to surround Brady with could possibly include take a long, hard look at Devonta Freeman to add to the mix at running back with the Buccaneers.
If Tampa Bay came calling to Freeman, you would think that Freeman would be very much intrigued with the idea of that and playing behind one of the top quarterbacks to ever take the field in the league.
In 2019, the Buccaneers ranked 24th in the NFL while averaging just 95.1 yards per game on the ground. Part of the reasoning behind that number is the fact that Tampa Bay, understandably so, threw the ball a lot with the high-powered talent in that area of the offense.
With Brady now coming in to lead things on offense, that pass-first offensive mindset will likely continue, but that doesn’t mean that Freeman wouldn’t be able to make an impact within the flow of the offense.
Freeman does have the ability to both run the ball and catch out of the backfield, something that Brady dealt a lot with in New England in 2019 with Sony Michel and James White coming out of the backfield.
Freeman would also be able to try and counter what Brady and company are doing in the passing game by trying to make an impact running the ball, while not solely behind relied upon to lead an offense in the ground game.
The potential move of Freeman to Tampa Bay could be the best of both worlds for both the running back and the Buccaneers in 2020.
