NFL Free Agency 2020: 5 Best landing spots for Devonta Freeman
1. Green Bay Packers
A team that is the most interesting fit and one that could be somewhat of a dark horse in the pursuit to sign Devonta Freeman ahead of the 2020 NFL season is the Green Bay Packers.
When it comes to teams that are looking to add running backs ahead of the upcoming year, Green Bay isn’t immediately a team that comes to mind in that regard. But like any of the 32 teams in the NFL, the Packers could look to add depth within the position at running back this offseason.
Freeman wouldn’t be the primary running back in Green Bay as he has been in Atlanta for the last few years but could play alongside Packers running back Aaron Jones and the two could make for a dominant duo on the ground to counter Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay passing attack.
Along with the potential fit of Freeman in the offensive flow in Green Bay, there is also another interesting connection that could tie Freeman to the Packers this offseason.
Current Green Bay head coach, Matt LaFleur, is very familiar with Freeman and what he is capable of bringing to an offense when healthy since LaFleur spent time with the Falcons as the quarterbacks coach from 2015-16.
In LaFleur’s offenses, the running backs have traditionally been heavily involved in the passing game and we saw that be the case with Jones and Jamaal Williams in 2019 in Green Bay. The good news for Freeman is that being a pass-catching running back is one of his strengths and could be inserted into that offensive scheme without any issues.
Although the Packers aren’t a team that you would initially think of as a squad that could land Freeman this offseason, Green Bay could be a dark horse in signing the running back before the start of the 2020 season.
