3. Pick Analysis. EDGE. Ohio State. Chase Young. Scouting Report. player. 50

For the Detroit Lions, this 2020 NFL Mock Draft couldn’t have gone any better. With the top two teams selecting quarterbacks, it leaves Chase Young on the board for them to snatch up. Currently, the Lions already have a solid edge rusher in Trey Flowers but being able to put Young on the opposite side of them would give them an elite defensive line.

Young comes from a school that has had a long line of success in recent seasons when it comes to developing pass rushers. Joey Bosa went No. 3 overall to the Los Angeles Chargers in 2016 and ended up winning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year for his work that season.

A few years later, his younger brother, Nick Bosa went second overall to the San Francisco 49ers. Like his older brother, Nick Bosa won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award as he helped the 49ers make it to the Super Bowl on the strength of their defense.

As impressive as each of the Bosa brothers have been, the consensus is that Young is a better prospect than either of them. He recorded 16.5 sacks in 2019 which came one season after recording 10.5.

With a great mix of size and athleticism, Young is about as sure of a prospect as there has been in any class. And for a defensive coach like Matt Patricia, there couldn’t be a better pick.
