4. Tennessee Titans

While the Ravens, Raiders, and Eagles are typically the teams that come to mind when discussing offenses that use multiple tight end sets, the Tennessee Titans are actually one of the biggest proponents of utilizing 12, 22 and 13 personnel. In 2019, the Titans fielded at least two tight ends on 50 percent of their offensive snaps. They ranked third in the league in the utilization of multiple tight end sets, only behind Philadelphia and Minnesota in terms of percentage of plays.

With Derrick Henry returning for another season and no significant additions having been made to the wide receiver room, this offensive philosophy is not likely to change for the upcoming season. However, the Titans need to address their depth at the tight end position if they want to continue this scheme, as Jonnu Smith remains the only tight end on the roster to have played more than 50 percent of snaps from last season.

While Delanie Walker‘s departure was not sudden by any means, his contributions to the offense will be sorely missed. Walker caught 60 passes in every season in which he played 15 or more games, and he surpassed 800 total yards in four consecutive years. Last year, before his injury, he averaged 3.5 catches per game.

O.J. Howard would be a fitting addition to play alongside Smith, as Howard has the ability to both run an extensive route tree and assist in run support. Last year, Howard ranked fourth among tight ends in deep targets and average target distance; he would be a solid addition for Ryan Tannehill, who completed 41 deep passes in 2019 despite only starting 10 regular-season games. Tennessee should certainly reach out to Tampa Bay to acquire another weapon for their title run.
