Pick 59. WR. 30. Pick Analysis. Round 2. Denzel Mimis. player. Scouting Report

The New York Jets played the percentages and they won. On the clock at No. 11 overall, there were calls for them to draft a wide receiver. Had they done so, no one would have blamed them.

After losing Robby Anderson in free agency, the Jets offense was without a legitimate No. 1 option, which is less than ideal for a team with a young quarterback such as Sam Darnold.

New York decided to go a different route though, as they landed Louisville left tackle Mekhi Becton. It was a smart move considering their desperate need for an offensive tackle — as well as the fact that this class was loaded at wide receiver. Sure, they passed on CeeDee Lamb, Henry Ruggs, and Jerry Jeudy but they felt they could get a starter later on. And that’s exactly what happened.

Back on the clock at No. 59, New York decided to stop the slide of Denzel Mims, the Baylor wide receiver that some had a first-round grade on. Mims has incredible size at 6-foot-3 and 207-pounds and showed off his wheels by running a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash.

Not only is he a potential No. 1 receiver in the NFL but the Jets also landed a solid left tackle that will give Darnold the time he needs to get the ball downfield. Their top two picks were great, but their second was highway robbery.
