Washington Redskins: Grading every pick in 2020 NFL Draft
By Hunter Noll
Round 1, Pick 2: Chase Young, DE
Chase Young was the best player in the 2020 NFL Draft. In fact, he might be the best prospect the NFL Draft has seen in quite some time. Young spent three seasons in college at Ohio State. His 2019 season was legendary. The defensive end racked up 46 tackles (21 for loss) and 16.5 sacks. He added three pass deflections and had a ridiculous seven forced fumbles.

- Dallas Cowboys made the trade everyone else should have made
- Pittsburgh Steelers rookie sleeper everyone should be talking about
- Anthony Richardson putting jaw-dropping talent on display immediately
- Denver Broncos’ stud wide receiver might be out for a while
- Washington Commanders: Three takeaways from win over Ravens
Young was not really a position of need for the Redskins. They entered the draft needing help in the secondary, on the offensive line and could use some offensive weapons. So that’s the only real negative you could say here.
At the same time though, Young will help with the secondary. An elite pass rush makes a secondary look better. And imagine Young paired up with Montez Sweat. That’s just unfair and that duo could legitimately haunt opposing quarterbacks for over a decade.
Throw in Jonathan Allen, Matthew Ioannidis, Da’Ron Payne and Ryan Kerrigan and that unit should almost be illegal. They even have great depth with players such as Ryan Anderson and Tim Settle.
Young is a superstar. He gives Washington someone who could legitimately be an All-Pro at a consistent rate. It would’ve been foolish to pass up on this talent. And it’s foolish to give this anything less than an A+, he’s just that good.
Pick Grade: A+
