Round 4, Pick 108: Saahdiq Charles, OT

Right before the start of Day 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Redskins traded superstar left tackle Trent Williams. This trade had been a long time coming, everyone knew the marriage was coming to an end sooner or later. And Washington finally pulled the trigger.

Williams was shipped off to the San Francisco 49ers for a fifth-round pick in 2020 and a third-round pick in 2021. In might not sound like much, but it’s the best they were going to get after refusing to trade the tackle last year.

This left Washington with a problem though. The Redskins already needed help on the offensive line, and now lost their superstar. It took almost no time for them to fix that though. With the 108th overall selection, they took Saahdiq Charles from LSU.

Charles is one of the most talented offensive linemen in the entire draft. The offensive tackle can absolutely bully anyone trying to go through him and has the athletic ability to block those trying to go around him.

He had some disciplinary issues though, which led to him falling in the draft. In fact, he had a few disciplinary issues. And that clearly turned some teams off. That being said, he’s well worth the risk. And you have to trust that he has grown and that Rivera can help him mature even more.

Charles can be an immediate starter and has superstar potential. As for the “character issues”, Charles seems ready to move on and mature so let’s give him the chance to prove that he can do just that.
