Round 4, Pick 122: Jacob Eason, QB, Washington

Grade: C

Considering all the hype Jacob Eason received during the draft process, this should be considered a steal. This part of the draft was an ideal spot for the former Washington quarterback.

With that said, Eason has excellent size, towering over the pocket at 6-6, 231 pounds. He also has a rocket arm with power that masking his anticipatory skills. He doesn’t have good pocket presence nor his he technically sound. Short-range accuracy isn’t his strong game but he does work well in a timing offense. Eason’s arm and downfield vision allow him to throw guys open.

If he’s forced to start, the Colts have a solid line and good enough defense to protect him. Hilton and Campbell will aid in his strengths, which are mid-to-deep passes. Confidence in his arm is both a gift and a curse, he’s a toolsy prospect with excellent potential.

The Colts needed a quarterback to develop behind Rivers for a year or two. This likely spells the end for Jacoby Brissett. At the very least, they have a quarterback to evaluate for the 2020 season. If they aren’t good and he doesn’t show promise, there’s always the 2021 NFL Draft.
