52. . . . Gardner Minshew. 28. player

Everyone’s favorite mustached, jockstrap wearing quarterback comes in at 28th on the quarterback power rankings. The Jaguars took Gardner Minshew in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, with the 178th overall pick. When Nick Foles suddenly suffered a broken collarbone in Week 1, Jacksonville threw Minshew into the fire, and he performed admirably for a rookie.

In 12 games as a starter, Minshew went 6-6. On the season as a whole, Minshew completed 60.6 percent of his pass attempts for 3,271 yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions. His play translated to a 91.2 passer rating, which outranked Kyler Murray‘s 87.4 and Daniel Jones‘ 87.7. Minshew was also the only quarterback from the 2019 draft to throw for over 3,000 yards while throwing fewer than ten interceptions.

Despite outperforming other rookie quarterbacks in various facets of the game, Minshew did fumble 13 times. He also suffered some serious lows throughout the season. For instance, Minshew turned the ball over four times during Jacksonville’s loss to the Houston Texans in Week 9. He also completed fewer than 50.0% of his pass attempts on three separate occasions and lost three fumbles in a seven-point loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 5.

Minshew possesses the raw capabilities to play quarterback in the NFL. Unlike the four quarterbacks below him, Minshew proved he can move the football with ease. Unfortunately, the Jaguars are crumbling as a team. With the wheels about to come off, Minshew is stuck in a losing situation.
