Defensive Linemen (9): Jerry Hughes, Trent Murphy, Star Lotulelei, Ed Oliver, AJ Epenesa, Harrison Phillips, Quinton Jefferson, Mario Addison, Vernon Butler

After only carrying eight defensive linemen into the regular season last year, the Bills have placed a priority on the position this offseason. Nearly half of the defensive line will be made up of new additions, including former Panthers Addison and Butler, former Seahawk Jefferson, and the Bills’ 2nd round pick Epenesa.

The pass rush was the most underwhelming unit of the Bills top-three defense last year, which is a testament to how deep this team was at the other positions on that side of the ball. After losing Jordan Phillips and Shaq Lawson this offseason, Buffalo had to replace their combined 16 sacks from last season.

Jerry Hughes is not getting any younger and Ed Oliver is likely to face a suspension from his extracurricular activities this offseason, so the Bills will need reinforcements in this area.

Trent Murphy is the sore thumb in this group, as many suggested he will be a cap casualty this offseason. Yet, Beane understands that he still provides some value on the line and may get a compensatory pick for Murphy if he lets him finish out his current deal. Unless the Bills can trade Murphy for additional compensation, they’ll be inclined to keep the veteran.
