Ranking the Dallas Cowboys 10 best players on the roster
By Randy Gurzi
3. Dak Prescott, Quarterback
Dallas absolutely owned this past draft as they brought in CeeDee Lamb, Trevon Diggs, Neville Gallimore, Reggie Robinson, Tyler Biadasz, and Bradlee Anae. All those players have the talent to one day be starters in the NFL and a couple of them — namely Lamb and Diggs — could become stars in the NFL.
This class looks so impressive that it could rival the haul they had in the 2016 NFL Draft. That class landed them Ezekiel Elliott, Jaylon Smith, Anthony Brown, Maliek Collins (who left this season in free agency), and of course, Dak Prescott.
Prescott, a Mississippi State product, was added with a compensatory pick and was the 135th overall selection in that class. He was called a project but ended up having to start from day one after Tony Romo and Kellen Moore were both injured.
All he did in their absence was win 13 games while throwing for 3,667 yards with an insane 23-to-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Now after four seasons, Prescott has led Dallas to a record of 40-24 and has two NFC East titles to show for it. He’s also coming off his best passing season ever, throwing for 4,902 yards (one shy of the franchise record) with 30 touchdowns and 11 picks.
Prescott’s arm talent isn’t his only attribute as he can also destroy teams with his legs. In his four seasons, Dak has 1,221 yards on the ground and 21 touchdowns — and the Cowboys have been criticized for not utilizing the part of his game even more.
Dallas and their star quarterback are still trying to work out a long-term deal and he has his doubters — as every Cowboys quarterback has had — but the Cowboys have a great player here. He’s a team leader who can get it done through the air and on the ground. Not only that but Prescott has improved vastly over the past two seasons and has a shot to own just about every Dallas Cowboys statistical record by the time his career is done.
