Seattle Seahawks: Surprising team MVP candidates
By Samuel Teets
Seattle Seahawks Offensive MVP Candidates
Wilson captained Seattle’s offense to multiple impressive wins last season, including back-to-back overtime victories in Weeks 9 and 10. However, the dual-threat quarterback isn’t Seattle’s only playmaker. He’s surrounded by one of the NFL’s best collections of skill players. If we remove Wilson from the conversation, members of his supporting cast quickly step forward to submit their team MVP candidacies.

Chris Carson and Tyler Lockett both have multiple campaigns as top options, but all eyes are on D.K. Metcalf this year. The Ole Miss product turned heads at the 2019 NFL Combine with a ridiculous 4.33-second 40-yard dash. At 6-4, 229 pounds, Metcalf is easily Seattle’s most imposing offensive weapon. He has the size of some tight ends but possesses the speed of an elite threat.
For comparison, Alabama’s Henry Ruggs III ran a 4.27-second 40-yard dash at this year’s combine, which led all receivers. Ruggs is five inches shorter and 41 pounds lighter than Metcalf. It’s freakish how well the second-year receiver can move given his immense size. Metcalf’s athleticism and build make him the perfect candidate for an MVP season.
Metcalf made 58 receptions for 900 yards and seven touchdowns last year. However, Wilson targeted him more during the season’s second half, and Metcalf’s best performance didn’t come until he demolished Philadelphia in the Wild Card Round. The 22-year-old enters 2020 hoping to cross the 1,000-yard threshold for the first time.
If he stays healthy, Will Dissly could emerge as a surprising MVP candidate. He and free-agent signee Greg Olsen both struggled with injuries over the past two seasons. When healthy, the two tight ends perform at borderline Pro Bowl levels. However, Dissly brings quality blocking to the table the Olsen can’t match.
It wouldn’t surprise me if either of the tight ends finished with around 800 receiving yards. The Seahawks haven’t had a tight end cross that threshold since Jimmy Graham in 2016.
