3. New additions will boost Atlanta on both sides of the ball

Following the disappointment of another shortened season without postseason football in 2019, Atlanta went out and added a few solid pieces on both offense and defense via free agency and the trade market to fill some holes on the depth chart.

More from NFL Spin Zone

For starters, the Falcons added a few players on offense to add to their already high-powered offensive unit. Early on in free agency, after Austin Hooper departed to sign with the Cleveland Browns, Atlanta traded for now former Baltimore Ravens tight end Hayden Hurst to fill that void left in the middle of the field. Later on, Atlanta parted ways with longtime running back Devonta Freeman to sign former Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley, who will take over as the starter out of the backfield.

Those two pieces will have have the opportunity to put together solid bounce-back seasons in 2020 now in Atlanta, and they will certainly have chances to do so in their new home.

On defense, the Falcons added a handful of players on that end of the ball to shore up some weaknesses on the roster going into 2020. Most notably, the team added edge rusher Dante Fowler Jr. who will play a key role on defense and could quickly emerge as one of the top producers for Atlanta on the defensive end of the field.

There have been other additions as well, whether that occurred via the NFL Draft, free agency or the trade market, that will provide the Falcons with a nice boost and a change of some personnel throughout the field during the new season.

Those additions will provide to be solid decisions by the end of the year, resulting in Atlanta putting together somewhat of a surprising season that ultimately ends with a return to the playoffs.
