NFL Week 1: 5 Underdogs that could win this week
By Randy Gurzi
5. Miami Dolphins (+6.5) vs. New England Patriots
The Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots face off with one another twice a year and the while the Dolphins have the most wins in the battle historically, it’s been New England on top for much of the Tom Brady era. However, the final meeting between the two with Brady under center for New England ended in an upset.

Miami was trounced 43-0 in Week 2 but in Week 17, they got their revenge as Ryan Fitzpatrick led them to a 27-24 victory. The game was decided on a touchdown from Ryan Fitzpatrick to Mike Gesicki with 24 seconds to play, giving the Dolphins their fifth win of the season.
Now in Week 1, we get another showdown between the two teams although New England will look much different this season with Brady now in Tampa Bay. With him out, the Patriots are turning the ball over to Cam Newton, a former No. 1 overall pick in 2011 of the Carolina Panthers. Newton should be able to keep New England competitive but he has to prove he can stay healthy. He’s also going to be working in a whole new system and Sunday will be his first action under Josh McDaniels.
That means Cam and the Pats offense won’t be the finely tuned machine we are used to seeing from them. This could open the door for Miami, who is returning a very familiar offense — giving them a possible upper hand. It could be enough for them to sneak off with a win in Week 1.
