NFL Power Rankings, Week 8: Packers bounce back, Seahawks stumble

Before the San Francisco 49ers took on the New England Patriots on Sunday, there was a story that broke regarding Jimmy Garoppolo. The 49ers signal-caller was set to play at Gillette Stadium for the first time since the Pats traded him, but this wasn’t the headline. Instead, it was a report from Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, who said the 49ers aren’t exactly committed to Jimmy G.
"“Kyle thinks he can turn almost anyone into a star,” one league source who has worked with 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan extensively and is familiar with his thinking said. “He’s had a lot of success with a lot of different guys and the salary structure on that team has changed dramatically the last few years. He’s not a guy who thinks he needs a $30 million a year QB to win. And they aren’t exactly gushing about the guy that they have now.” — La Canfora, CBS Sports"
La Canfora also hinted at the team targeting Matt Ryan, who had an MVP campaign under Kyle Shanahan in Atlanta — and who could be available with the Falcons about to hit the reset button.
On Sunday, San Franciso got the win but Garroppolo continued to give mixed results. He was 20-of-25 passing for 277 yards but had two picks and again took a backseat to the 197 yards and four touchdowns they had on the ground.
San Francisco is now 4-3 and things are looking up, but it’s probably safe to assume those reports from La Canfora are true.
