43. Best NFL Player Born in Texas – Joe Greene

Defensive tackle “Mean” Joe Greene was truly one of the main catalysts of the famous “Steel Curtain” that made the defense of the Pittsburgh Steelers one to be terrified of during the ’70s. Hailing from Texas, Greene couldn’t be stopped even when he at times had three players trying to contain him.

In his amazing NFL career, Greene was always able to get to the quarterback, stop running backs with precision, and truly was a tackling machine. He made the Pro Bowl an astonishing 10 times as fans absolutely loved everything he brought to the table.

Texas is forever known as the friendly state but they produced one heck of a Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive juggernaut. Green made a name for himself as being intimidating and plowing through offensive lineman with ease and precision.

Career Accomplishments

  • 10-time Pro Bowler throughout his career representing the Steelers
  • Played 91 straight games without missing a single start
  • Only the second Steeler in franchise history to have his jersey number retired
