Zach Wilson, BYU – Best 2021 NFL Draft Fit: Atlanta Falcons

If you’re looking for a quarterback who’s played himself into the QB3 conversation, look at BYU’s Zach Wilson. Listed at 6-3, 210 pounds, Wilson improved from his sophomore to his junior season tremendously.

Through nine games, he improved his completion percentage, touchdowns and passing yards. He went from completing 62 to 74 percent of his passes. He’s also thrown 26 touchdowns to just two interceptions with 2,724 yards to his credit.

The Atlanta Falcons will have a new regime coming into the 2021 NFL Draft. That usually means a new signal-caller coming in. Matt Ryan’s on the tail end of his career who could hold down the fort for one more season. The Falcons could also trade the veteran quarterback for draft capital in hopes to move up for a quarterback. Either way, a player like Wilson makes sense for the Falcons.

Unlike Ryan, Wilson has enough athleticism to make plays in and out of the pocket. He possesses a good sense for pressure and has a suddenness to his movement that helps him avoid potential sacks.

Wilson keeps his eyes downfield when scrambling. He has enough touch and accuracy to make deep throws, benefiting a player like Calvin Ridley. Ultimately, he’ll give the Falcons a mobile quarterback to help reboot their franchise.
