Javonte Williams, North Carolina – Best 2021 NFL Draft Fit: Miami Dolphins

Some Dolphin fans will hate not having Najee Harris here. With Tua on the roster and their dying need for a running back, he does make sense — but he isn’t the perfect fit. The Fins need a back who can create when things aren’t there and a reliable pass-catcher. Javonte Williams is all that and more who’ll benefit from Chan Gailey’s offense.

Williams has great girth from top to bottom, he’s a stout 5-10, 220-pound back. He’s a powerful runner who doesn’t go down with just one run defender. His shoulders are always square, and he lunges forward on every tackle.

He won’t shake defenders, but he’s decisive with a quickness. He also has the creativity to make something from nothing. In the open field, he’s tough to bring down thanks to his deadly stiff arm. He stops and starts without losing speed and a homerun threat.

On third downs, he’s displayed natural hands and YAC ability. Since becoming a featured part of the Tar Heels offense in 2019, Williams caught 42 passes for 481 yards and five touchdowns.

The Fins have tried everything to establish a power running game including signing Jordan Howard, to no avail. They’ve shuffled guys in and out of the lineup due to injury. And the lack of having a complete back. Williams can solve all their problems.
