Thanks to a terrific scheme, the Bills have had no problem generating pressure. However, with the likes of Jerry Hughes not getting any younger, the need to continue getting younger and adding talent on the edge is key to this continuing.

Daelin Hayes is not a finished product, which is why he’s available in the fifth round. That’s a problem given that he had a largely full career at Notre Dame. However, his physical tools are fascinating and quality. If the Bills staff can help hone in his technique and discipline on the edge, the pieces are there for him to be an effective and versatile player up front.

Buffalo isn’t hurting at wide receiver. Stefon Diggs was obviously a phenomenal addition after he led the NFL in receiving yards. Meanwhile, John Brown and Cole Beasley are great role players and Gabriel Davis flashed as a rookie. However, you can never have enough depth when it comes to pass-catchers.

Adding Frank Darby here is another player who could play a role. He’s a fine athlete who is well-versed in winning in traffic while also having some nice movement ability to create yards after the catch. He’s also a nice blocker. While he lacks consistent separation skills, he could be a role player in this emerging prolific passing game.

Back to adding depth the secondary, it stands to reason that, if cornerback is a big enough need to target in the first round, then it should be big enough to add in the later rounds too. Thus, Dicaprio Bootle is the pick here.

Bootle isn’t the most physically gifted player but he has experience as both a safety and cornerback and has a fighter’s mentality. He may need to add some weight to become a better tackler but his versatility and approach to the game should be something that the Bills like.
