NFL Draft: Re-grading every first round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft: Number 6 overall, C Quenton Nelson

The 2018 NFL Draft has produced a lot of studs. Some have gone on to become Pro Bowlers, others have been named to the All-Pro team already. One specific individual has taken home the league’s highest honor in the MVP award.

Despite the standouts, few, if any can compare to Quenton Nelson. Coming out of Notre Dame, Nelson was viewed as the type of player that you could plug in right away to protect your quarterback for the next decade.

They weren’t lying.

Nelson has been incredible, amazing, unbelievable and whatever other superlative words you can think of. With three years in the NFL in his back pocket, he has allowed only three sacks during that span. This past year, Nelson became the first player since Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders to be named to the First Team All-Pro in each of his first three years. Nelson has also been named to three straight Pro Bowls as well.

Not only has Nelson been a great player, but he’s also been a malleable one. In his first year in the league, his starting quarterback was Andrew Luck but after an abrupt retirement, Jacoby Brissett took over. If the playing style’s in those two weren’t different enough, most recent quarterback Philip Rivers, who was essentially a statue in the pocket, stepped in last year.

With Carson Wentz now set to lead this club, Nelson will have his fourth QB in as many years. It doesn’t appear that it will be an issue for him though as he continues to roll with the punches and provides the litany of quarterbacks he’s been given, maximum protection. To top it off, Nelson hasn’t missed a single game.

If we knew then, what we know now about Nelson, there’s a good chance he would’ve been the number one overall pick.
