2021 NFL Mock Draft: Cowboys fix defense, Justin Fields slides to Broncos

20. Chicago Bears: Greg Newsome II, CB, Northwestern
This offseason didn’t really go as planned for the Chicago Bears. After realizing Mitchell Trubisky wasn’t the answer, they went out in search of a new quarterback and ended up with Andy Dalton. Now, no offense is meant to Dalton who has had a solid NFL career, but at this stage, it really doesn’t feel like he’s an upgrade over Trubisky.
Having said that, the Bears knew they had to move on and Dalton is nothing more than a stop-gap for them — and it’s pretty likely that he will be the starter for the entire 2021 season. That’s because Chicago is picking at No. 20 and there’s almost no chance they get one of the top quarterbacks in this class, without trading up.
With all that being said, the Bears simply have to try and address some of the holes on their roster, which they do here by taking Greg Newsome II from Northwestern. Newsome has been climbing up boards as of late and for Chicago, he would help them replace Kyle Fuller who was released in the offseason.
Newsome is a lengthy corner who stands in at 6-foot-1 and 190-pounds and is very good at attacking the ball in the air. He does need to turn more of his plays into interceptions but that comes with time and experience. The real concern, however, is his health. Newsome has yet to play a full season, so he will need to convince teams he can stay healthy. As long as they believe he can, he should be a first-round pick.
