Packers Day 2 WR target No. 6: Tutu Atwell, Louisville

When you think about the type of playmaker that the Packers need to potentially add to the wide receiver corps, there isn’t necessarily one bucket that their targets fall into. However, if you have a player who can play in the slot and stretch the field in multiple ways, that’s a player that would be inserted seamlessly into Matt LaFleur’s offense. Tutu Atwell checks those boxes.

Now, Atwell is extremely small as he measured in at just under 5-9 and only 155 pounds. That’s a concern as his frame is not conducive to the physicality of the NFL. But as they say, you can’t hit what you can’t catch and that’s what the Louisville product brings to the table.

Not only is Atwell a burner who can break off deep routes and get behind defensive backs with regularity (he posted a 1.49-second 10-yard split at his pro day), but he also showed the ability to take short screens and make defenders miss as he takes the edge or cuts upfield. He has that type of game-breaking ability, even as a slot-only player.

In his 2021 NFL Draft guide, Dane Brugler of The Athletic (subscription required) referred to Atwell as being in the mold of Marquise Brown. Imagine that type of speed and playmaking being used to complement Davante Adams. That would make a lot of sense, especially if he falls to the end of the third round for Green Bay.
