30 worst No. 1 overall picks in NFL Draft history: 4. RB, Bo Jackson

Stats:

  • 2,782 rushing yards
  • 16 touchdowns

Whenever Bo Jackson would step foot onto the football field, everyone who watched would be forced to pick their jaws up off the floor. The Auburn running back was terrific. In his Sophomore year, he punished SEC defenses to the tune of 1,213 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He may have had a down year in his third year but he was a monster in his senior season.

Thanks to 1,786 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns, Jackson heard his name called before all others in 1987 by the Los Angeles Raiders. Unfortunately for his new ball club, Jackson was a man of many talents. One of them, however, didn’t appear to be professional football.

After being drafted by the Kansas City Royals in Major League Baseball one year prior, Jackson would split his time between both organizations. On the baseball diamond, Jackson was terrific, having multiple seasons of 25+ home runs. His time on the football field was something else entirely as he struggled to get going. Jackson failed to put together a thousand yard season and saw his career come crashing down altogether following a career-ending hip injury in 1991. Ironically enough, after taking a bit of time off, Jackson continued to play baseball.
