NFL Draft 2021: Atlanta Falcons pick Kyle Pitts, compares to Tony Gonzalez

Both Kyle Pitts and Tony Gonzalez are either related to one another or they’re the same person.

The similarities in terms of not only their game but their measurables are a bit on the ridiculous side. At six foot six, Pitts is only one inch taller than his Hall of Fame counterpart while weighing exactly one pound light, 246 pounds to 247. The final two years of their respective careers in college were also comparable. Pitts racked up 1,419 receiving yards while Gonzalez hauled in 1,240.

If those numbers weren’t close enough, simply check out their 40 times. Pitts raced down the field and officially clocked in at 4.44. Over two decades prior, Gonzalez clocked in at 4.49. Both players are essentially splitting images of one another. It isn’t just the measurables but it’s also the dominance in which they play the game.

Gonzalez was known as a steadily consistent great player. In 14 of his last 15 seasons, Gonzalez registered at least 700 receiving yards. Even as a 37-year-old and on his last legs, Gonzalez was named a Pro Bowler after putting together a season consisting of 859 yards and eight touchdowns.

For Pitts, he’s been tabbed as possibly the best player in this draft, a distinction Gonzalez could easily lay claim to coming out of the 1997 draft. It’ll take a long time before Pitts carves out his own Hall of Fame career but according to the measurables and eye test, it appears as though he could be headed towards Tony Gonzalez level success.
