NFL: 30 of the biggest what-ifs in NFL history
NFL: 30 of the biggest what-ifs in NFL history: 3. No Herschel Walker trade
If it were up to the Minnesota Vikings fanbase, they would much if rather this “what if” became a reality.
There’s simply no other way to put it, the Vikings were bamboozled into giving up everything for a player who was just plain terrible.
Despite watching Herschel Walker put up inconsequential numbers on the Dallas Cowboys, the Vikings believed he was idoneous to their franchise. In order to get him on their team, the Vikings handed over literally everything, seemingly endless draft picks and countless players highlighted the biggest trade in NFL history. Those draft picks would ultimately turn into all-timers such as Darren Woodson as well as Emmitt Smith and in the end, they resulted in Super Bowl rings.
But what would the Cowboys have done if the Vikings, like the rest of the league, realized Walker couldn’t play? Those star-studded Cowboys squads were stacked but they would be fairly normal under different circumstances. Without that enormous draft capital, it’s likely that the Cowboys Super Bowl drought would stretch a few decades further.
