NFL: 30 of the biggest what-ifs in NFL history: 25. Bill Belichick remains on the Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns have always been a dysfunctional mess. They’ve lacked structure and discipline for an incredibly long time.

On the other side of the equation, the New England Patriots have always seemed like a well-oiled machine, mostly due to Bill Belichick. Yet, before he was instilling fear into the hearts of his players in New England and forcing them to toe the line, he was attempting to turn things around in Cleveland. After three years of horrific play, he seemed to be doing just that with a regular season that consisted of 11 wins in 1994. With that said, they were right back at the bottom of the barrel with only five wins the following year.

Belichick was then released and made his way to New England. Six Super Bowl rings later and he has a viable and credible argument as the greatest coach ever. With each successful season, fans of the Browns have to be kicking themselves for letting him go.

Would Belichick have turned the Browns into a powerhouse? That’s hard to say but with 30 years in the big chair, there’s a chance he would’ve brought a bit of his championship mettle to a Browns franchise that is still in search of relevance.
