NFL History: 30 players fans loved to loathe: 4. Bill Romanowski

There probably isn’t a single soul alive that has something nice to say about Bill Romanowski. The four-time Super Bowl-winning linebacker seemingly hated the fans, the opposition, his teammates and even the coaching staff. In short, Romanowski had an issue with everyone.

During a game against the Arizona Cardinals in 1995, Romanowski kicked fullback Larry Centers in the head. Unsurprisingly, Romanowski was thrown out of the game and given a heavy fine. His intensity level never died down, not even during the preseason. In 1997, Romanowski broke the jaw of Carolina Panthers quarterback Kerry Collins. In both instances, of course, the fans let him have it.

In a complete sign of disrespect, Romanowski spit in the face of San Francisco 49ers receiver J.J. Stokes. Romanowski’s teammates weren’t absolved of his aggressive ways. In 2003, Marcus Williams was forced to retire after he had his eye socket crushed during a physical confrontation with Romanowski.

With the nonstop issues of Romanowski, his hometown fans rarely if ever cheered for him. His teammates hated him and no one enjoyed playing against him. When it comes to most of the names on this list, we can see a situation where a particular fan base kisses and makes up with a certain player but when it comes to Romanowski, he’ll be forever hated.
