NFL History: 30 players fans loved to loathe: 26. Deion Sanders

Before Deion Sanders broke up a single NFL pass, the Hall of Fame defensive player talked trash. For the overwhelming majority of his career, Sanders backed up every single one of his words. He was brash, bold and wore expensive jewelry way before it was cool to do so, even at the NFL Draft.

Playing a physical game with Sanders only motivated him to do the same. And attempting to run past him simply wasn’t going to happen. In only his second year in the league, he helped lead the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl title. The Bay area loved him as he made their city the land of champions but they immediately hated him once he jumped ship and left them the following year for the Dallas Cowboys.

Ironically enough, the Cowboys began loving him as he helped push them over the championship finish line. As for the 49ers, Sanders was no longer welcomed in their arena. Even today, he isn’t exactly welcomed with open arms.
