Two NFL teams could be a Stephon Gilmore trade away from contending

4. Indianapolis Colts – Colts general manager Chris Ballard is in an admittedly tough spot right now. Trading for Carson Wentz this offseason made two things come about. First, Ballard gave away a few valuable draft picks that he loves to hoard rather than send away. And secondly, Indy is now playing a risky game trying to help rejuvenate Wentz under Frank Reich.

If Wentz can find his old form, though, the Colts should be in line to contend. For that to happen, the defense needs to be shored up, particularly in the secondary where Xavier Rhodes and Kenny Moore could both be upgraded from and also use depth around. Thus, with plenty of cap room and more draft assets, Indianapolis could certainly make a Gilmore trade work.

3. Dallas Cowboys – Now that Dak Prescott will be back in the fold (and under contract) while the offensive line gets back to health, there are reasons to believe the Dallas Cowboys offense is going to be juggernaut-like in the 2021 season. The defense, however, is a cause for concern, particularly in the secondary.

Anthony Brown, Trevon Diggs and rookie Kelvin Joseph are talented but the lack of experience and polish aside from Brown is jarring. Dallas isn’t rich with cap room but, if Jerry Jones wants to continue building with an all-in approach, than aggressively pursuing a Gilmore trade would certainly fit the bill and, without question, help the Cowboys defense drastically improve.
