EDGE. DeMarvin Leal. 12. 31. Pick Analysis. Texas AM. player. Scouting Report

12. New York Giants (via Chicago Bears): DeMarvin Leal, EDGE, Texas A&M

In the 2021 NFL Draft, the New York Giants lucked out when Georgia outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari fell to them in the second round. One of the more impressive athletes at the position, Ojulari did have some injury concerns which was the main reason he fell to where he did.

As long as he stays healthy, the Giants could finally have themselves a pass rusher that offenses really have to gameplan against. But they shouldn’t stop there.

In today’s pass-happy league, it makes more sense to pick up more than one guy who is capable of pushing the pocket and recking havoc in the backfield, which is why they use their second pick in this draft (one gained in the trade with the Chicago Bears for the draft pick used on Justin Fields) on DeMarvin Leal from Texas A&M.

At 6-foot-4 and 290-pounds, Leal would be a great 5-tech defensive lineman in New York’s defense and he’s capable of playing on all three downs. His numbers aren’t going to blow anyone away but he could really help muddy things up and take attention away from their pass-rushing outside linebackers, allowing them to do even more damage.
