2022 NFL Mock Draft: Jets land superstar EDGE, Eagles triple-dip on defense
By Randy Gurzi
15. Los Angeles Chargers: George Karlaftis, DE, Purdue
Joey Bosa remains one of the better pass rushers in the NFL and is going to be the face of the Los Angeles Chargers defense for years to come. However, no one can deny that the defense was much more intimidating when Melvin Ingram was playing opposite Bosa at a high level. It may not have lasted long but having the two-headed monster rushing that passer was tough for opposing offensive lines to deal with.
In 2021, they d
on’t really have that player to help Bosa which means he can be taken out of the play at times — whether that be with a double-team block or simply running away from him. That’s why this pick is made with the goal in mind of helping Bosa.
The selection for the Chargers is George Karlaftis who is well built at 6-foot-4 and 275-pounds. Born in Athens, Greece, Karlaftis is a bit of a question mark right now. He was sensational as a freshman but then played in just two games in 2020. He’s rounding back into form early in 2021 and while the sacks haven’t been piling up, he could still jump back into Round 1 consideration as long as he finds his footing and performs as he did in 2019.
