2021 NFL Power Rankings, Week 4: Rams claim top spot, Steelers and Bears plummet
Fans were ecstatic — even if it only came about due to an injury — to see the first start of rookie quarterback Justin Fields with the Chicago Bears. That anticipation was quickly met with existential dread as the first-round pick the franchise traded up for was baptized by fire against the Browns.
Fields was sacked an astonishing nine times on the day as the Bears much-maligned offensive line hung him out to dry in the eventual 26-6 loss to Cleveland. The quarterback wasn’t alone as the rushing attack had nothing going as well and, if not for a strong early defensive performance of their own, this game would’ve really gotten out of hand.
While it was a less than stellar debut for the rookie, who finished 6-of-20 for 68 yards, the blame falls back on Matt Nagy yet again. The head coach is supposed to be an offensive guru but he failed to call hardly any rollouts or boots to utilize Fields’ athleticism and skill set and to try and mitigate the O-line getting beat to a pulp.
At this point, it would be a stunner if Nagy makes it through the remainder of the 2021 season. His decisions both on macro and micro levels continue to make absolutely no sense and put his team at a detriment.
