2021 NFL Power Rankings, Week 4: Rams claim top spot, Steelers and Bears plummet
After getting blown out twice, the Atlanta Falcons gave first-year head coach the first victory of his career on Sunday as they went on the road and clawed out the win.
It wasn’t necessarily pretty for the Falcons as they continued to struggle in the rushing game — or at least find some consistency with it — and as veteran quarterback Matt Ryan has still not found ways to get Calvin Ridley and Kyle Pitts in line to utilize their explosive playmaking, evidenced by the fact that Cordarrell Patterson led the team in receiving with 82 yards.
Yet, when the Giants took a 14-7 lead in the fourth quarter, Ryan and Atlanta’s offense were methodical in driving down the field and tying up the game with a one-yard pass to Lee Smith. The defense then came up with a play when they needed it most as Dante Fowler sacked Daniel Jones to force New York to punt. That made way for a two-minute drill that culminated in a game-winning Younghoe Koo kick.
Atlanta clearly has more potential than they’ve shown so far this season, even if they aren’t a playoff team. There are going to be plenty more losses to come but the hope would be that this builds some momentum to see a bit more fight from the Falcons.
