Quarterly MVP odds: +7500 Ryan Tannehill

Although we never want to be totally dismissive of someone’s chances to win the MVP award, in the case of Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill, he doesn’t appear to have much of a shot.

There are a few issues with the MVP candidacy of Tannehill. For starters, the Titans’ offense is mostly placed on the shoulders of running back Derrick Henry. It’s the very reason why the All-Pro back has a better chance at winning the award than Tannehill. Also, just in a nutshell, the signal-caller isn’t going to put up the sort of numbers that will warrant him bagging the hardware. Through four games, Tannehill has thrown just a hair over 1,000 yards.

Also, to damper his hopes even further, Tannehill has thrown just five touchdowns to three interceptions. Granted, it’s still early, but he’ll need to be a lot sharper as the season progresses if he wants any chance at winning the biggest award of the NFL season.

Tannehill does have a path to the trophy, albeit an unlikely one. First things first, he’ll need to lead the Titans to at least 13 wins. Also, and more importantly, Henry’s production will have to essentially fall off a cliff. If it does, however, there’s a good chance that the Titans aren’t winning as many games. It’s a no-win scenario for Tannehill. Meaning, bettors should keep their money in their pockets as opposed to laying it down on the talented QB.
