The Los Angeles Rams struck first in Super Bowl LVI as Matthew Stafford threw a touchdown pass to Odell Beckham Jr. to get the Rams on the board.

The Los Angeles Rams have drawn first blood in Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals, getting on the board after a couple of defensive stops from both teams to start the game. The first touchdown of Super Bowl LVI went to Odell Beckham Jr. on a beauty of a pass from Matthew Stafford.

Who would have thought just over a year ago we would be writing that?

The Los Angeles Rams invested substantially in Matthew Stafford and then by some good fortune in the middle of the season, Odell Beckham forced his way out of Cleveland.

Now the two have connected on the game’s biggest stage.

Odell Beckham Jr. kicks off the scoring in Super Bowl LVI

No team has been better over the last few years at making veteran pickups in the offseason and during the season than the Los Angeles Rams. With Matthew Stafford on board as the team’s QB, the Rams have been a force offensively and Beckham Jr. has found his stride again.

Both teams got off to shaky starts offensively in this game.

Super Bowl jitters, no doubt.

After a big fourth-down stop by young Rams linebacker Ernest Jones, the Los Angeles offense took advantage of a short field and got a huge play to move into scoring range from Cooper Kupp, who caught a short pass outside and gained a bunch of yards after the catch.

There’s no one in the league better at doing just that.

Then, Odell Beckham Jr. did what he does best. Working out of the slot, Beckham ran a wheel route and worked against one of the top slot cornerbacks in the NFL in Mike Hilton, who has had an outstanding season for the Bengals coming over from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Rams and Bengals have traded punts since this post was written and the first quarter is quickly coming to a close.
