Chandler Jones landing spot no. 4: Cleveland Browns

The Browns are leaving 2021 behind them and readying for the 2022 NFL Season. The addition of Amari Cooper is proof of that. They’re looking to improve their offense with a healthy Baker Mayfield, a happy Jarvis Landry, and an explosive Donovan Peoples-Jones. They’ll be looking to do the same with their defense.

They have a hole on the edge with Jadeveon Clowney hitting the free-agent market. Clowney was a solid pickup, but he’s more of a run defender. Now that he’s free, the former No. 1 overall pick will command a ton on the open market.

However, his asking price is too rich for the Browns. If they were going to spend money on an edge rusher, it should be a player who can truly make teams pay for doubling Myles Garrett. With the Browns, Jones can get paid and never get double-teamed—sounds like a win-win.

Chandler Jones landing spot no. 3: Miami Dolphins

Cap space and a hole on the defensive side of the ball make the Miami Dolphins an attractive place for Chandler Jones. He’ll leave sunny Arizona for Miami, Florida. Emmanuel Ogbah will hit the free-agent market after another stat-padding season with the Fins. A player like Chandler Jones is a better option for a team still in need of a dynamic edge rusher.

Mike McDaniel comes from a team predicated on great defense. One can imagine he’d want to continue the trend now that he’s the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Chris Grier has to know that he needs to plug the massive hole left by Ogbah. What better way to do that than to add a player like Chandler Jones?

Rookie Jaelen Phillips did a great job, but he’ll need help if the Fins want to continue their blitz-heavy scheme. Jones will play the same role he did for the Cardinals, who, like the Fins, blitz over 30% of the time. In fact, only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (40%) blitz more than the Dolphins. Jones’ ability to play in a two and three-point stance is exactly what the Dolphins need.
