Eagles sign Haason Reddick in NFL Free agency

Deal: 3-year, $45 million

Grade: C+

Haason Reddick finally enjoyed a breakout season with the Panthers last season, as the linebacker was dominant for most of the year. He played his hybrid edge-linebacker role well there, as he racked up 15 sacks. It was far and away his best season, so one would think that 15 million a season would be fair for a top edge threat.

The issue is, Reddick isn’t a traditional edge rusher, nor can he be used like one. He is extremely undersized to play with his hand down on every play. He would be better served as an off-ball linebacker that can blitz from the middle as well as rotate in at edge on occasion. That doesn’t seem like the direction the Eagles will take him though.

While this isn’t a bad move by any means, I struggle to envision Reddick having the same success he had last season with the Eagles. He lacks the size needed to rush off the edge on every play and would be better suited to play more off the ball. The contract is a slight overpay and the fit isn’t great. Overall, this deal needs to show me something next year to be considered good.
