Initial grades for 10 of the biggest deals from NFL free agency

Jaguars sign Foye Oluokun in NFL free agency
Deal: 3-years, $45 million
Grade: C-
The Jaguars continued with their aggressive spending and added the top off-ball linebacker in the free agency class to their roster. While I do like Foyesade Oluokun as a player, this was a major overpay. While he is a fine linebacker, he isn’t as impactful as some of the top names in the league yet is being paid as such.
Oluokun did lead the league in tackles last season and is a decent coverage linebacker. The issues with him lie in his size and the number of tackles he misses. As well, he isn’t elite in coverage despite his size and speed indicating that he would be. He is a fine starter, but a fine starter should be earning closer to 10 million a season, not 15.
This deal makes Oluokun the fourth highest-paid off-ball linebacker in the league, and his play doesn’t warrant a deal like that. While I’m sure he will continue his above-average play with the Jaguars, he will be doing so on a deal worth far too much money. The overpay is what is holding this deal back from being even average.
