NFL Mock draft picks 17 and 18

17. Los Angeles Chargers: Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa

The Chargers took steps in solidifying their left tackle last season, and it paid dividends. Now they look to do the same at the right tackle spot, as a great prospect falls into their lap. Trevor Penning is a classic mauler at tackle, as he uses his size and athleticism to bully defenders out of the play.

While his pass blocking needs some work, he should provide an instant boost as a run blocker. Penning has one of the nastiest mean streaks of this rookie class, as he loves to be a big bully to defensive linemen. He will need to refine some of the elements of his game, but he should develop into a good lineman in time.

18. New Orleans Saints: Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State

Ohio St.. 18. WR. Garrett Wilson. player. 812. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

The Saints could go in a variety of ways with this first pick. Despite bringing back Jameis Winston, a quarterback has to be tempting here. That said, with only one receiver off the board, New Orleans opts to land another top target to put into their receiving crew in this mock draft. Garrett Wilson is a great fit in any offense and would be a boost to a receiving group that is lacking options.

Wilson runs sharp routes and is a great run after the catch threat. He tested as a great athlete on top of everything else, further making him an appealing option to look at for the Saints. He would give Winston a safety valve to rely on and a down-the-field threat to exploit. His game has few weaknesses, and he would slot well into the Saints offense.
