NFL Free Agency: Three best remaining moves

3. Duane Brown to the Indianapolis Colts

I was thinking of making this last one as Julio Jones or Will Fuller V to the Colts, but the offensive line is more important, given the context.

The Colts dumped Carson Wentz, trading him to the Washington Commanders. They then acquired Matt Ryan from the Atlanta Falcons.

After spending nearly 15 years in Atlanta, Matt Ryan has found a new home in Indy.

The Colts went 9-8 in 2021, boasting a top 10 offense and defense, but Carson Wentz seemed to have broken down the last two weeks. Matt Ryan might not be an upgrade as a passer, but he’s an excellent teammate and simply has a much stronger career than Wentz has.

It’s a logical destination for Ryan and an easy decision to make for the Colts.  The Colts have a player who won’t make those patented boneheaded mistakes that other quarterbacks make.

One of the best moves to cap off the offseason for the Colts is to give Ryan a solid blindside protector. Brown is a five-time Pro Bowler who has played in the AFC South before with the Houston Texans.

The Colts offensive line has been one of the better units in the NFL, and their running game with Jonathan Taylor is set to be the bulk of their offense.

Signing a high quality player to play on Matt Ryan’s blindside makes a lot of sense, and would put a nice finishing touch on the Colts’ free agency period.
