NFL 2022: Ranking the top 43 quarterbacks in the league
No. 1 NFL quarterback in 2022: Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
Looking back on his career up to this point, isn’t it kind of hard to believe that Mahomes sat for all but one game of his rookie season back in 2017?
He’s accomplished so much in such a short time as an NFL starter, and the scary thing for the rest of the league is — what happens as this guy gets better and smarter?
Mahomes is a real-life cheat code at the quarterback position. He has all of the arm talent in the world, and although he may not be setting any track on fire with his 40-yard dash time, he knows how to avoid pressure and make plays with his legs.
In four seasons as a starter in the NFL, Mahomes averages 38 touchdowns per season. Is he willing to put the ball in harm’s way at times?
Sure. But that hasn’t resulted in very many losses for the Chiefs because with Mahomes under center, there’s virtually no lead that is safe against Kansas City, if you can even get one in the first place.
Even though Mahomes set a new career-high last year with 13 interceptions and the Chiefs got off to a slightly slow start, there’s no reason to panic about his abilities.
The only cause for concern with Mahomes at this point is his supporting cast. Tyreek Hill is off to Miami and he was obviously a major contributing factor to Mahomes’ success.
How good can Mahomes be without no. 10 throwing up peace signs in 2022? We’re fixing to find out.
