Atlanta Falcons: Tyler Vrabel, OT, Boston College

OT. player. 44. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Tyler Vrabel. OT. Boston College

Tyler Vrabel ended up landing in a really good spot. The Boston College product was seen as a potential day three pick but ended up going undrafted. Not long after the final pick was announced, Vrabel agreed to terms with the Atlanta Falcons.

There are two reasons this could end up being really good for Vrabel. One is the depth around him at the position and the other is the ties he has to head coach Arthur Smith.

First, the position has been a problem for the Falcons for a while. They have struggled to field a great offensive line, which is why former quarterback Matt Ryan was often seen taking a beating.

While they have made some efforts to fix the starting tackle positions, they still need a dependable swing tackle and Vrabel could very well prove to be capable of handling that job.

At the very worst, he could be the second tackle off the bench.

As for his ties to Smith, the current Falcons head coach worked under the rookie’s father, Mike Vrabel, for years as the tight end coach and eventually offensive coordinator.

That won’t exactly guarantee him a spot on the team but it does mean he and Smith likely share some of the same philosophies about football, which couldn’t hurt.
