3 reasons the Tennessee Titans will disappoint fans in 2022
Reason no. 1 the Tennessee Titans will disappoint: The hilariously bad AJ Brown trade
It pains me to even relive this one, and I’m not a Tennessee Titans fan.
I still cannot believe the AJ Brown trade actually happened.
The Titans must have felt completely desperate that the value on AJ Brown would go down significantly. Either that or they just thought the world of Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks.
One way or another, they traded their best offensive weapon outside of Derrick Henry in exchange for an unproven version.
Over the last handful of seasons, AJ Brown has really established himself and proven himself as one of the top wide receivers in the league when it comes to creating after the catch, other than last year which was limited by injury.
There’s no doubt that Brown’s effectiveness on a per-target basis was down last season, and perhaps the Titans viewed that as a sign of things to come rather than a down year due to injury (Brown was limited to 13 games).
With that being said, this just doesn’t feel like the kind of trade a “contending” team should have made.
We saw the Packers trade Davante Adams, and as bad as that trade is for the Packers, they still have Aaron Rodgers.
We saw the Chiefs trade Tyreek Hill, and as bad as that trade is for the Chiefs, they still have Patrick Mahomes.
The Titans have Ryan Tannehill. They don’t have Rodgers and they don’t have Mahomes.
They don’t have a quarterback that can be the tide raising all other boats, they have a quarterback that needs players like AJ Brown to help make his life easier.
Now, they don’t have AJ Brown, and the wide receiver room as a whole has been shaken up from last season. The Titans now have Robert Woods, Treylon Burks, and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine as their top three.
It’s a bold strategy, we’ll see if it pays off for them.
