Chicago Bears: What to watch for in Week 1 vs San Francisco 49ers
We get to see the new Justin Fields
Last season was not one that quarterback Justin Fields wants to remember. There was a lot of hope for him and the Chicago Bears offense when he was drafted.
The problem was that everyone could see Fields’ skills but Nagy. Nagy refused to adjust his offense to fit Fields. His system was set up for a non-mobile quarterback. That quarterback was Andy Dalton. When Dalton went down, he just plugged in Fields without adding the other things he could do.
The result was a disaster. Fields spent most of his time running away from tremendous pressure. Because of that, he made a lot of mistakes. However, he made some incredible throws.
This season should be different. The Bears brought in Luke Getsy, who worked with Aaron Rodgers at Green Bay. Getsy will utilize all of Fields’ skills. As we saw in the preseason, there were a lot of rollouts called. Also, the plays were designed for him to get rid of the ball quickly.
Fields is now playing in a system set up for his success. If the line does a decent job of blocking he could really start to blossom. It starts in Week 1.
