2023 NFL Mock Draft: C.J. Stroud back at No. 1
By Randy Gurzi
28. Kansas City Chiefs: Andre Carter, EDGE, Army
Listed at 6-foot-7 and 260-pounds, Andre Carter is an imposing figure and broke out with 14.5 sacks for Army last year. He’s been slowed down so far in 2022 but that has a lot to do with the lack of talent around him. Teams game plan to simply stay away from him, but he’s still a freakish athlete that could make a huge impact on a team such as the Kansas City Chiefs.
Frank Clark has yet to live up to his expectations and it might be time to finally cut their loss and send him on. With Carter, they can do this and still feel comfortable about how they perform on the edge.
29. Green Bay Packers: Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina
For some reason, the Green Bay Packers keep trying to find options at wide receiver outside of the first round of the draft. Even with two picks last year following their Davante Adams trade, they went defense each time before adding Christian Watson in the second.
They still need to make a larger investment and with their defense sound, they can finally do that in 2023. This leads to the selection of Josh Downs, a 5-foot-10, 175-pounder who is electric with the ball in his hands. Some teams might be concerned with his size but Aaron Rodgers isn’t worried about a wideout who can win the jump ball. He’s far too precise for that and would much rather have a quick route runner who can turn a short pass into a home run.
